Message I am about 3 weeks away from having my engine completely built - Rods, OS Pistons, Cams, OS Valve train, ARP studs, etc.(the works) - and it seems like weekly, if not daily, a member posts about failure with their build. Most commonly it sounds like spun rod bearings. I can't even decide on a builder because as soon as I think I know where to send it, someone will say their motor from that company just spun a bearing.

I don't want to have $5k in internals plus $3k in a build to have it blow in less than 5k miles, that’s stupid. But it seems to be all too common. Factor in the time it takes to install (I will be doing the install) plus tune, fit and finish and it becomes a very costly "issue" very quick.

I’m a 1st year college student at Ohio State and have been working 2 jobs while going to school to pay for my build this summer. I also spent my whole senior year of high school researching, working, and accumulating parts for my Z. And now that it seems like I have done all my HW and got my ducks in a row, that the build is still a huge gamble of nearly all of my financial resources.

I really can't decide where to go from this point. I know I have options, but it seems like the fate of my Z and 2+ years of hard work lies in the hand of an engine builder.

If it goes bust than I have $20k+ in a car that won't run, but will look cool sitting there? I’m not exactly going for a show car... Then drop another grand on getting it running again for another couple thousand miles?

Let me know what you think. Sorry if the post got confusing, I have a lot on my mind. Thanks in advance for helpful thoughts.

Jared
